Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Pinkham Memorial Missionary Baptist Church?
Our church is located at:
119 SE Browning St.
DeKalb, Texas  75559

Where do I park?
There is visitor and handicapped parking in the front and to the east side of the church.  We have a back lot behind the church that is used for overflow parking.

Is there something for the children?  Is there a nursery?
Children are always welcome in our worship services!  However, we do provide a nursery, staffed by volunteers for children ages 3 and younger and Children's Chapel for children ages 4 through 6th grade.

What are the services like?
Our morning worship service begins with our music service.  We try to have a mixture of contemporary music and traditional hymns.  After the worship service, the children are dismissed to Children's Chapel, and our pastor brings the message.  We close out our services with a hymn of invitation where anyone is welcome to come to the front to pray, walk the aisle to join our church, or to come as a candidate for baptism.

Do I have to dress up?
There is no dress code for attendance.  In our services you will see everything from jeans to suits.  Our concern is not what is on the outside, but what is inside.  Jesus accepts us as we are when we come to Him, so come as you are.  Please come in whatever dress will make you comfortable and ready to worship.

How will I know when to stand?
Not to worry, the worship leader or the pastor will ask the congregation to stand or sit during the worship service.

How long does the worship service last?
Usually, the worship service lasts about an hour.

Which Bible translation is typically used when scripture is read aloud during the service?
We typically read from the King James Version of the Bible.

Am I expected to give or donate?
We do not expect our visitors to give during the offering unless they are led by the Lord to do so.  However, we would love to have a record of your visit.  It helps us to get to know you better if you would fill out the visitor card found next to the hymn books and place it in the offering plate.  We collect this information in order to let you know about specific activities and events that you and/or your family might enjoy.

How do I join the church?
You are welcome to come to church regularly without formally joining.  You do not have to become a member at Pinkham Memorial to participate in worship, study, and service.  However, you may decide at some point that you would like to take the step of membership.  If God leads you to make Pinkham your church home, present yourself for membership during any worship service when the invitation is given.  We receive members in the following ways:
By Baptism:  If you have trusted in Jesus Christ as your Savior and you desire to live according to His teachings as taught by this church, you may join by baptism.
By Letter:  If you have been baptized in another Baptist church which follows the same teachings as taught in this church, you may join by a letter from your former church.  (We will request the letter from your former church.)
By Statement:  If it is impossible to get a letter from your former church, you may join by statement of having been baptized by a Baptist church of similar faith and practice.

The pastor would be happy to address any other questions or concerns regarding this process.

Do I have to be a member to partake in the Lord's Supper?
At Pinkham, we believe Jesus Christ established the Lord's Supper for the local church.  We do practice closed communion and request that only members of our church participate.

How do I get involved?
The best way to get to know people is to get involved!  Pinkham Memorial offers numerous opportunities to participate in a ministry and we are always looking for extra hands and willing hearts.  If you are not involved in worship, small group Bible study, or service, then you are missing out on all that God has for you!  Take some time to explore the website and find a place to worship, study, and serve that is right for you.  Feel free to talk to our pastor, one of the deacons, or a member about where God may be calling you to be plugged in!
